Learn About Opioid Addiction Treatment
Learn about opioid addiction treatment at Rolling Hills Hospital in Ada, OK
Opioids are narcotic pain relievers that work by interfering with the transmission of the pain signal to the brain and by changing the way in which the brain perceives pain. Essentially, the chemicals in opioids bind to the opioid receptors present in the brain and central nervous system, and the gastrointestinal tract subsequently stimulates their effects. However, while their analgesic effects decrease pain it can also lower reaction to pain which can lead to increased pain tolerance for the user. This ultimately causes them to need more drugs to produce the original effects. Over time, this can lead to opioid dependence.

Why Consider Opioid Treatment
Why consider treatment for opioid addiction at Rolling Hills Hospital in Ada, OK
While opioids are widely used in the medical field for the treatment of pain, there are many adverse side effects and dangers that can come from continued or abusive use of opioids. The continued use of this drug can impact family, friends, and many other things in a person’s life. Additionally, the negative health consequences associated with opioid abuse can lead irreversible damage that will impact you the rest of your life. If left untreated, this already bad situation can only get worse.
Treatment for opioid abuse includes helping an individual to stop using, treating symptoms of withdrawal, and preventing them from using this dangerous substance again. The withdrawal process can be dangerous and life threatening and so it should only be done in the presence of trained mental health professionals and medical staff. In an inpatient treatment setting the patient will be monitored 24 hours a day in case any problems should arise. Additionally, when trying to overcome cravings, a person in an inpatient setting will be free of additional triggers from the outside world until they have developed stronger coping skills. Once detoxification has been completed, a rehab clinic has a number of therapeutic methods readily available for each patient in order to help them overcome their substance abuse and live a sober lifestyle.

Types of Treatment
Types of opioid addiction treatment offered at Rolling Hills Hospital in Ada, OK
At Rolling Hills’ rehab clinic, we maintain a treatment team of professionals all of whom are dedicated to providing high-quality care to each and every person that comes to us. All treatment regimens are individualized to meet patient’s particular needs and stated in measurable terms within the patient’s treatment plan. Most of our services use a combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but our various treatment options tend to have additional, consistent needs. Your specific needs will determine which treatment option you will receieve. The following are some therapeutic treatment methods that may be part of your treatment plan.
Medical detoxification: For those patients that come to us chemical dependent on opioids treatment will start by completing detox. Detoxification is the process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins in the body. Through this process, the body is able to heal itself and return to normal functioning. At Rolling Hills, our detox process focuses on the safe withdrawal from alcohol and other substances while encompassing structured clinical treatment.
Medication management: At Rolling Hills, each one of our patient sees our psychiatrist at least three times a week for evaluation and medication management. All patients will be thoroughly evaluated and monitored throughout the course of treatment. In many instances medication is used in the detox process to help control some of the unpleasant symptoms and help control the symptoms of an underlying mental health disorder that may be present.
Individual therapy: All of our patients engage in individual therapy on a weekly basis, at least two hours a week for adolescents and at least once a week for all other units. During individual therapy patients can take the time to delve deeper into the root case for why they started opioids in the first place.
Group therapy: Here at Rolling Hills we offer a number of different process and expressive groups on a weekly basis. Topics will vary some depending upon the unit that is person is in. However, some of the topics offered on each unit may include: coping skills, anger management, life skills, and managing mental illness. Those in our chemical dependency program will also have substance abuse related topics.
Family therapy: Family therapy is an important part of the treatment process and is held at least once a week for each one of our patients. For the adolescent unit family sessions must be held in person with a licensed therapist. Additionally, parents are encouraged to attend regular treatment meetings and can call to check on their child on a regular basis.
In addition to these therapeutic methods, Rolling Hills provides a number of other services that you may participate in during your stay with us. These include:
- Recreation therapy
- Expressive therapies (art, music, pet therapy, tai chi)
- Daily school
- Emotions anonymous
